Intro to Signals and Systems is a student-led course run through the Electronics & Engineering Club at Berkeley City College. It is based on UC Berkeley's EECS 16A and is not part of BCC's official course catalog.
The course runs for 8 weeks, from Tuesday, October 27 to Friday, December 18, with 16 lectures in total.
Lectures are held Tuesdays 1:30pm - 3:00pm and Fridays 12:00pm - 1:30pm in [Room TBA].
None. The course is aimed at students heading toward electrical engineering, but it is open to everyone. Taking linear algebra at the same time is recommended but not required. You don't need linear algebra or differential equations beforehand.
There is no homework.
Weeks 1-4 are set. Weeks 5-8 may change based on how the class is progressing. See the topic maps for the full breakdown of each lecture.
| Week | Theme | Lectures |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Signals | Signals as data; Operating on signals |
| 2 | Similarity | Measuring similarity; Matching signals |
| 3 | Matrices and least squares | Matrices as machines; Least squares |
| 4 | Data fitting and systems | Data fitting and validation; Systems |
| 5 | Convolution and sinusoids | Convolution; Sinusoids |
| 6 | Frequency | Frequency decomposition; Spectrograms |
| 7 | Filters and applications | Frequency response and filters; Audio fingerprinting |
| 8 | Flex and wrap-up | Flex session; Project showcase and next steps |
Attendance is taken with a secret word system.
The course is pass/no pass. Students who complete it receive a certificate of completion. There are two ways to earn it:
These requirements may change. Any changes will be announced on the course homepage.
